The Mahavidyas (wisdom goddesses) of the Tantric tradition in yoga represent forces of darkness and light which abide within us all. While similar to other studies of archetypal tendencies, understanding the Mahavidyas is particularly important to a broader and deeper experience in the practice of yoga. While Hatha yoga has been widely taught in the West, Tantra yoga has important resonance when experiencing societal divisions, emotional unease, and cognitive dissonance. NOW is the time to dive deep into these teachings!

There are a total of ten wisdom goddesses in this tradition and any one of them could become a lifetime of study! For this group, we will take 6 weeks exploring the various manifestations, symbolism, and powers for each of the first three: Kali, Tara, and Sodasi (Tripura Sundari). Readings, meditations, artwork/creative expression, reflections, and sharing will be included as parts of our exploration. We will also spend some time studying how the Mahavidyas fit into the philosophy and practices of yoga, Ayurveda, and Eastern spirituality.

This course is highly recommended for any yoga practitioners, teachers, or those who wish to simply explore the complexity of the human psyche. Whether you have never been exposed to the pantheon of goddesses in this tradition or if you have studied in depth already, this is a chance to experience their power of transformation and share perspectives on how we deal with change, regeneration, language, and matriarchal/feminine society.

Meetings will be weekly for four months: August-November. Due to concerns and restrictions of COVID-19, there are two ways to participate in this study group: via Zoom or in person (limited group size and adhering to any current restrictions). Depending on demand, these times and options may be adjusted. There will also be presenter video recordings for anyone unable to make meeting times available for all enrolled (regardless of format choice).
